PROGRAMS

RetrainToWalk offer several programs  which is a specialized  exercise program for people with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy and other forms for paralysis.

We offer very specific trainer-aided exercises and activities, called “Activity Based Training.” Workouts help our clients get physically and emotionally healthy, so if and when a cure or treatment is found, they are in the best condition.

Individualized Training:

Each client receives an assessment of personal and individual abilities, strengths, and goals by a qualified professional. Exercise programs are individually designed and continually updated and improved to stay progressively challenging. They focus not only on what individuals can do, but also on what they wish to do.

Guided Exercise:

This type of training is focused on the neuromuscular system below the level of injury or affected by paralysis. The client works one on one with a highly trained activity-based specialist. During these sessions the specialist will focus on the client’s needs and key factors promoting strength and independence. Movements related to daily motor tasks are the focus including trunk control and mobility, reaching and grasping and/or standing and walking.

NeuroMuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES):

As we grow we will be purchasing FES equipment which provides activity-based rehabilitation that uses pulses of electrical current to evoke muscle contractions and patterned muscle activity to complete a specific task. Electrical stimulation enables muscles to work and perform activities even though the muscles may be weak or paralyzed through neurological disease or injury.

Locomotor Training:

We are planning on buying body weight support to allow us to provide this type of training. This training is a rehabilitation strategy that allows individuals to repetitively practice standing and stepping using body weight support and a treadmill with manual facilitation from our specialists.

 Load Bearing:

Putting weight on different part of your body like standing is important. Our standing glider allows wheelchair users to stand. This allows the nervous system to experience the stress of bearing the body’s weight. This has been shown to have positive benefits including improved bone density, greater stress on the muscles, and an increase in nervous system adaptations.
